1979 Trailfire electiral info

Post by Mcolli »

Hello I have a 1979 Trailfire that has lost its spark and i'm trying to trouble shoot it. The information that i'm lookin for is what to ohm the cdi box and the coil out at for the sled. If there is anyone who has this info it would be very helpful if i could get the ohm ratings for them.

Thank you for the info that you provided, but i've already gone through and looked on the site and its sources and didn't find the info that im lookin for. What i need is ratings for the multimeter that i have and they don't have that info, but thanks.

Don't have the Trailfire specs but here's the specs from the 79 Drifter 340/440 which should be the same:

340 Drifter:
Exciter Coil - Red to Ground (Brown) 1.10 0hms± 20%
Lighting Coil - Yellow to Yellow 0.14 ohm ± 20%
Ignition coil - Primary - Red or white to Ground 1.610hms± 20%
Secondary - High Tension Lead to Ground 5,000 ohms ± 20%
Plug caps - Terminals at each end of cap 1,000 0hms± 20%

440 Drifter:
Exciter coil - red to ground 128 ohms ± 20%
Pulser coil - red to white 23 ohms ± 20%
lighting coil - yellow to yellow 0.18 ohms ±20%
Ignition coil - Primary - Blue to Ground 0.37 ohm ± 20%
Secondary - High Tension to High Tension 10,200 ohms ± 20%
Plug caps Terminals at each end of cap 5,000 ohms ± 20%

Have you tried disconnecting the wiring harness at the engine to see if you have spark?

Thank you for the info but still no spark. I still need the CDI box ohm rating and how to test it if there are any tests out there to figure out if it is good or bad. This is what i have left to test is the CDI box. Also where is this engine wiring harness located and what does it look like.

There is no way to test a CDI box with an ohm meter.

The best test is to instal a know good box and go from there.
