NEW Restoration - 80 Spitfire

Post by Matt »

It's been quite a while since I posted anything new in the Restorations page of the site, so I feel it's time to do some catching up.

Spitfires have been gradually becoming more and more popular. They have gained a reputation in the vintage snowmobile community as having a high fun-factor, while being a small, low-HP, simple machine.

One such machine belongs to Brian (80spitfire), who took this barn-fresh Spit and returned it to it's youth.

Very nice looking machine. I can only hope that mine looks close to what this looks like.

Thanks man. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The only advice I can give you to make your 80 really stand out is, disassemble and clean everything and I mean everything and repaint every little detail. When I did this sled the only thing on the entire sled I didn't disassemble was the primary clutch. Also one more thing, brass wheels and stainless steel bolts become your best friend.

Haha yeah I figured someone would notice that lol Yeah for some reason my new shocks didn't come with a bushing for the bottom bolt and when I took this picture I still hadn't made any bushings, so when it came loose I just pulled it off for the day. Good eyes though man lol

Nice job on the restoration,I would like to make one of these my next project.
These have alot of appeal after lugging a 76 Liquifire.
I use stainless hardware as well but be careful where you need strength.

Yeah you'll love moving theses little Spits around after a 76 Liquifire. They weigh 275 lbs so that's like what 125 150 less? LFs feel like a million lbs sometimes though lol

Ever since the 1st generation Liquifires hit the market I was hooked.
Still like them but get back spasms looking at them now lol.

Yeah I went backwards. After I finished this Spitfire I bought a 77 Liquifire and wow did I ever not appreciate enough how light those Spitfires are before I got the Liquifire lol
