73 JD 400 Lighting Coil questions

Post by CheetahSteve »

Alright, i replaced all the ignition components on the JD other then the lighting coil, however it has some of the copper unwound, Is it safe to run it like this or should I replace it. At this point, my brother is coming in friday from alaska and saturday he wants to ride it so lights dont have to work.

Also what should the point gap be set to on this thing it has the CCW

Thanks

0.016 is good.

If you are missing a winding or two the voltage maybe lower but not much.

12.8 vs 12.6 for example
