Comet/Hoffco were bought out by CPC. They are in the process of starting up the lines again.

I believe Guitardude081 has done a Polaris clutch swap. Try doing a search for it or sending him a message.

I am pretty sure you can use a Comet 108C, or 108EXP. It has to be a 30mm tapered shaft clutch though.

The 217506A - EXP 108C- 0.13 Shallow Bore clutch will fit. Last time I called around looking for one, Al's snowmobile had 1 in stock.

Re: 1980 liquifire 440 clutch change
Correct. I have used 3 EXP's and a 108C. More difficult to change belts, especially with the EXP, but the performance is worth it.Hackinator wrote:The 217506A - EXP 108C- 0.13 Shallow Bore clutch will fit. Last time I called around looking for one, Al's snowmobile had 1 in stock.

Just curious, are you using the stock driven with this setup? And what belt do you use then?

Stock secondary and belt on both versions. DK and others advertised that model EXP for use on 82 and up LF's only, but it works on all of them.

Re: 1980 liquifire 440 clutch change
I have a 108EXP on one of my 80's with the stock secondary. I've been pondering this recently, and I fear that since the 108EXP is a larger diameter clutch (8" vs. 7 5/8" if my memory is correct) the primary could be trying to shift in more when the secondary is bottomed out. I have never broken a belt, jackshaft, or had any other issues but my gut instinct at the moment tells me I need to rethink this. I know when Deere went to the TR800 they also changed the thickness of the spacer (M68665 on 102C equipped) that the moving sheave of the secondary contacts when at the highest ratio.
What was the diameter of the TR800?

Re: 1980 liquifire 440 clutch change
TR 800's are 8 inches. Scuttlebutt has it that the EXP has family ties to the TR 800. The secondary used with the TR has longer towers to accomodate the 1 3/8 belt. I was concerned about some of this stuff, but my Deere sled mechanic told me it would not be an issue. He raced and pulled wrenches on a lot of sleds.
Next question: What is the diameter of a 108C? Those arrived first and were just a heavier 102. I had one but never measured it.....

Re: 1980 liquifire 440 clutch change
Polaris clutch swap will work but will have to get an older modelwith the right tapper the larger hole so can get clutch back off and their is one other thing the back side of the clutch should be turned because of how the motor mounts and polaris plate is thicker.
Thanks Chris
