77 Liquifire
So I went to Waconia this week and I brought home a new Deere. I found a really nice 77 Liquifire 440 that has been really well maintained and actualy restored at one point in time. The sled has a brand new track, fully rebuilt motor, new bearings all around and a recovered seat done by John's upholstery. I was pretty dang syked to bring this thing home, it's really nice. All that I need to do to it is get the carbs setup a little better for the low-end, but other than that she runs great.
I was wondering what you guys all know about the 77s and what I have to keep my eye on and look out for for general maintenance. Also I was wondering if anybody has any operator or service manuals for my sled.

Brian,
The 77 is a more refined verison of the 76 but still with the same rear suspension. Keep the carbs clean and adjusted properly. Check the coolant level and the water pump belt. A copy of the owners manual and service manual is online...

Exactly! lol I actualy just got done plowing snow and I went fro a quick 15 mile cruise on it. I did learn today though that cleats aren't quite as good in powder as my 144" Polaris lol I think the only thing I need to do to the sled is clean and adjust the carbs, they seem pretty boggy in the low-end. One thing you could do that a former member mentioned is to install 2.0 slide valves in the carbs. This was from a Service Bulletin.

it would help solve your low end bog. What idle speed do you have. I like to keep mine up around 2300-2400.

My mistake, the '77 440 Liq already has the 2.0 slides. You should verifiy that you have all the correct jets.

Haha ok no problem I'll look into it. I think I mainly just need to dunk the carbs and readjust the low-end.

i messed with a 78 lf today . i spent quite a bit of time to get a low end bog out as well . i ended up with the idle screws out 1 turn after cleaning and piddling with them , i thought i had clutch issues but i was able to pretty well tune the dead spot out of it . it still needs some miles put on it ...but

I just got back from driving the Liquifire about 30 miles in the dark, I've put almost 70 miles on it since I bought it on saturday lol Anyways I still have the low-end bog that I haven't had a chance to tinker with yet but I also noticed that my headlight acts really funny. The beam changes all night from bright white to yellow, it usually stays yellow but if you play with the dimmer sometimes it will help it get brighter. So I'm wondering if you guys think my dimmer switch is just taking a crap on me or what it is; could it possibly be voltage regulator? Also, I've never had a liquid cooled Deere so I was wondering about the type of antifreeze to use in it, do I just use anything? and when I fill it do I fill the reservoir all the way to the top? I can just about gaurentte that your headlight problem is a bad ground.

That was another thing that I thought it might be. The reason why I thought maybe the switch, was because the rubber is cracked, so I thought moisture could get in. There is a wiring diagram in tech section of this webite.
First thing to do is inspect you sleds harness to see if any PSO has modified any wiring.
If so I would put it back the way it is suppose to be as Deere Enginerres knew what they were doing.
