Liquifire Paint

Post by 80spitfire »

Hey everybody, I've been doing a lot of research on my new 77 Liquifire and have been slowly tracking down some parts I will need when I restore it next year and one of the things that I'm not sure about on my sled is the paint. Did the 77 Liquifires come with metallic black on the hood and a flat black tunnel or did they come all gloss black? Rich told me that they came gloss black, but I'm not sure because mine's metallic and flat. Any info would be much appreciated because I'm just not sure if the guy that previously refreshed it painted it wrong.
Thanks,
Brian

Straight gloss black on all. Rich is correct.

Really wow so the guy screwed mine up when he refreshed it. So even the hood isn't metallic? That's just the 76s that are metallic right?

Also if anyone has a good picture of a gloss black 77, I'd love to see one to see what it's really supposed to look like.

I know that the 78s are gloss but it's the blavk and silver 76s and 77s that I'm not sure about.

That's even more confusing lol Well, if anybody doesn't quite get what I'm saying, basicaly I'm wondering if the 77s are exactly like 76s paint wise. Does a 77 have a Moonmist hood with a flat black tunnel just like the 77s or is it all supposed gloss black. Also, the 76s are the ones with the bumps on the side of the pan right? Here's all the sleds info if this helps VIN J44LF 073181M build date 10/76
Thanks guys,
Brian

Yeah that's what I thought too. I understand that the 78s, like DA's, are gloss, I get that, I just don't understand if the 76s and 77s had the exact same paint job or not. I know for a fact that the 76s are a metallic hood and blitz black tunnel and I was originally told that the 77s were exactly the same cosmeticaly except those bumps on the pan, but Rich got me all confused when he said that the 77s are supposed to be all gloss black including the hood. Sorry for being so repetitive guys, I'm sure it sounds like I've said the same thimg ten times, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew I was talking about the black and silver 77s not the 78s like DA's.

Thanks again guys,
Brian

if you look in the models section of the site it says that the 78s got a new paint color suggestion that the 76-77s were both the same . i say they were blitz black hoods pans both years maybe wrong but its what i think wade

Yeah I read that too and that's one of the reasins why I got confused. I agree with you in thinking that the pan was blitz black, not sure though with the hood I still think that was that moonmist, not sure though. I hope somebody chimes in that gas a nice original 77 to show us who's right.

The Liquifires are NOT blitz black. It was called "Midnight Mist". I believe it does have some metallic content. The hood and pan should be the same.

Wow that's a gorgeous 76 Matt, I can't wait til mine looks just like that. So if I'm understanding right, the 76s and 77s were both painted exactly the same? With a moonmist hood and pan? I just wasn't sure since the one in the picture is a 76. Thanks for the picture though.
