Grouser bar hardware

found a loose grouser bar on the 79 spitfire. was held on by one bolt. where do you find hardware to put it back on? we have some elevator bolts at work i may have to adapt if i cant find the real stuff. thanks for lookin', keith

Those elevator cup bolts might work. Measure the length you need and remove the excess prior to assembly.
Does your track have bolts instead of pop rivets for securing the grouser bars to the rubber? I thought Deere had abandoned the bolt concept in favor of pop rivets long before 1979 production.

If you leave the thread bolts at length you have studs... kind of....

thanks for the replies. it does have the grouser bars pop riveted on. had to drill and chisel the only rivet holding the bar on. i'm not sure if the elevator bolt idea would work. i think i have some 1/4" X 3" ones laying around somewhere. i'll have to check later this afternoon. what exactly is MCM? thanks again, keith

Get some new pop rivets and re-attach that grouser bar. Dennis Kirk has them if you can't source them locally. Buy a Marson rivet gun. I've been through the Swingline models; they make a good stapler but not so much on the rivet tool.

Deere sold bags of threaded rivits to use when replacing cleats. Dennis Kirk used to sell them, but I can't verify if they still do. They are basically a solid rivit with threads and nuts to attached. I have boxes full of them back in NY, but I won't be there until next weekend. Cat used steel pop-rivits in there tracks, and that would be my 2nd choice after the threaded ones.

made my own out of the elevator bolts for the bad bar but i'll probably get a bag or two of the threaded ones and redo all the bars this summer. thanks for the tips. played a little in the yard and it almost acts like it might idle. almost. i'll be going thru the butterfly carb again later this year.
