Wow sweet Dator Davedude. I love the paint. Yeah I think most of the stuff is there for the most part. The pnly fun thing I have to find is a track and I'd love to find a real Dator tunnel to pop my motor into.

Well, I checked my parts catolog and JDXspec was right. I have the Dator-lite suspension and the wheel kit. Is the lite suspension rare? It just seems like you don't see it very often. Also, what's the advantage to the wheel kit?

The wheel kit takes some weight off the sliders and thus could maybe run a little faster. Also good for marginal snow conditions as there is less wear on the sliders because of the reduced friction.

Well I got the tunnel all degreased today and it everything looks a lot better than I thought. I found all kinds of stuff that I thought the sled was missing. Here's some pics of how it looks under all that barn dust.ImageImage

I was wondering though, is this bracket that the coils and CDI are mounted to aftermarket? I always thought they were supposed to be mounted to the crank case.

Better take a serious look at that wiring harness as there has been a lot of hobcogging done to it.

If you mean all the splices to CDI plug, then yeah I plan on redoing all the connections. I am going to leave the coils and CDI mounted on that bracket though. I talked to Rich today and he thinks I should definitely leave it intact because they probably made that bracket and moved all the electronics for racing. That way if they had electrical problems during races they didn't have to pull the airbox and the carbs off to get to all of it. My intentions for this restoration are, to restore everything back to original except any thing that were added for racing. I guess you could kinda say an as raced restoration in a way. I just don't see any reason to get rid of the bracket, suspension, and the numbers on the hood when it's part of the sleds history. Plus I plan on putting it in the race sled class at shows not in the restored original. I don't know that's just my plan atleast. Let me know what you guys think.

Absolutley correct. If you have a raced sled with prominounse don't take that away when you restore it.

If it were mine I would not even repaint it. Just fix it up and retain it's "as raced" apperance.

Yet on the same note a restoration wouldn't be a bad idea either haha, what are your plans with the sled?
