Re: HELP!Wanted: 1972 John Deere Snowmobile Parts
I remembered seeing that one but forgot all about it until I saw your post today. The reason I noticed it earlier was that the shroud was different from the rest of the sleds I've seen.

Re: HELP!Wanted: 1972 John Deere Snowmobile Parts
I have never seen a 1972 780 salsbury clutch, but I know that the I.D. is 25mm, because the crankshaft on the 1972 340cc is a 25mm and it switched to 30mm on 1973 models on. The secondary driven sheeve is identical to the one on the 1973 jdx4 and 1974 300.sledder670 wrote:the truck load of used jd parts i just picked up have some odd ball looking secondary clutches in it if you had the od of the clutch or a picture i might have one. I hope that this helps

Re: HELP!Wanted: 1972 John Deere Snowmobile Parts
I am doing some digging through parts manuals on www.vintagesnoe.com, and the clutch on the 1973 jdx4/1974 300 looks identical to the clutch on the 1972 400. the only difference is the 25mm to 30mm ID on the fixed face assembly.????
What do you guys think.
A second opinion would be cool.

Was the clutch on that 400 engine I sold you no good, or was it the wrong engine? I had no idea, first 72 I had ever seen....or you want NOS for your ride?

Re: HELP!Wanted: 1972 John Deere Snowmobile Parts
I was able to salvage everything on the engine except crank and cylinders. Badly seezed! I was unable to free up the fixed face of the clutch from the crank.(I actually broke it).SpitfireKing wrote:Was the clutch on that 400 engine I sold you no good, or was it the wrong engine?
