points for a jdx 8

Post by snow7 »

I am having a very difficult time finding the correct points for my "74 JDX 8 . I have ordered all of them listed for ccw from mfg supply and none are correct also tried some Nos parts from ebay which are not correct either Same as some from MFG supply though. Just wondering where I can look or what I can do. The sled has been totally restored by a previous owner but he gave up on it cause he lost spark I got spark on one side and have the other narrowed down to the points because they are uneven and dont close properly any help would be appreciated
Thanks

The big question is does it have Kokusan or Denso ignition? The easiest way to tell with the flywheel off is to look at the generating coils (the top coils on the ststor plate). Does it have a one piece generating coil, or a two piece generating coil? If it has the one piece coil, you have yourself a Denso ignition. If it has the 2 piece coil, you have a Kokusan system.

It has a one piece coil it also has ND stamped on the flywheel if that means anything

It should look like this.

Found out last night that my points are wore out. I can't get the required .014 gap, so I assume the rubbing blocks are beyond spec..

No, the sled in question has a Nippon Denso ignition.

The Denso points were used on 72-74 500, 600, X 6, X8. The CCW part number is 25000450

I just ordered from here: http://www.partsreloaded.com/Snowmobile ... 25-0004-50

I will try those hopefully they are correct. I am getting a wide range of spare points so that is good I guess. Thanks to everyone for the help. It is hard to find help on these sleds and this site helps a lot.

I the points I have are:
Marshal L27
CCW#18-000-513
CCW/KEC 440RV

Are these the correct points for Snow7? I just want to make sure they are correct before I send them out.

The CCW/KEC 440RV might possibly be.
