Rockwell 2F440-8

Post by gnfreak »

while picking up some spitfire parts, i somehow managed to buy a Rockwell 2F440-8. its a two cylinder, single carb motor. the seller had put the spitfire 94c clutch on it. I've tried to do some reasearch on this motor and find that Rockwell is related to JLO and Cuyuna. Its got good spark and 130# compression on both sides. is there a way to determine what it came out of? what's it worth? thanks, keith

Could very well have been in a Scorpion.

I agree, looks like Scorp motor mount. If you were closer, I'd be interested. But, I'm far from normal....

keith i showed my brother this post and asked him what the numbers were on his 1974 super stinger and his numbers are 2f-340-6 my fathers book only said 2f-340.and i asked my father what he thought about the engine and he said it looked like a 1973 scorpion engine i think it came of a 1974 with a 1973 carberator or a 1973 with a 1974 recoil hope this helps.joshua :usa: :letitsnow: :sled:

hey josh, thanks for the info. i should have posted here that i did some horse tradin with that motor to get a "low mileage" 79 trailfire. the speedo sez 311 miles but it looks like its sat outside for the last 30 years. i did hear the 340 run on spray into the carb so i may be using parts off of this one to get my 440 running on more than one cylinder. i'm thinking of doing crank seals and paint jobs on both this summer, than unloading the 340 next time the snow flies.
