Two things I would check first.
Compression and cranks seals.

Finally checked the compression and it has 100 psi inclutch side and 110 in the other side . Not sure what it is supposed to have , can't find it in my books . Any help would be great . Thanks ahead of time . Ed

Your compression check revealed numbers that are not great but it should still fire and run.

If you are still only getting fuel to one of the two cylinders it may be bad crank seals.

hi ed. i did my 79 spit last november. really easy job but cases have to be separated to get the seals in right. the seals have a ridge on the outside edge. i was going to take the motor completely apart but after taking out the first piston circlip i couldnt get the pin to budge. didnt have a pin puller at that time. by moving the pistons halfway between top dead center and bottom dead center, i was able to separate the cases enough to clean the mating surfaces, apply a little rtv, and then the new seals. it all buttoned back up and ran like a champ. i've since made a pin puller so i'll probably take everything apart if i redo the 78 kohler motor i picked up last month. i also picked up a 80 trailfire 440 that is only firing on one side and a 79 trailfire 340 that runs great. i've swapped electrical parts to no avail so i'll be changing seals in the 440 this summer. stay tuned.

Oil seals can be found at most any Auto Parts store.
I they don't have the sizes you need in stock they can be ordered in a day or two.

finally got around to tearing down the trailfire 440. about 1/3 of the seal lip was missing on the mag side seal. plus lots of old oil inside the flywheel. if i was a betting man i'd say this is why it was only running on one side. could be your problem on your spitfire ed.
