stuck on stator

Post by S_Kyle »

I finally got the flywheel pulled on the 340 cyclone motor I am working on. Now the stator is stuck in place and I didn't want to pry on it. How much force can be applied before I run the risk of breaking something. There was a mouse nest in and around the recoil/ flywheel so I can guess why it is stuck on there.

thanks
Scott

Are the screws stuck or is it the plate itself that has been welded with rodent urine?

Todd, the screws came out fine. It dosen't look like the stator is corroded, just stuck in place. The screws did show some corrosion on the threads but the stator is fairly clean. I really want to get this motor apart so I can see what shape the crank is in.

If you have the screws out and release the pressure on the case bolts it will probably pop loose.

Todd, what about the trigger ring behind the stator?

Oh yeah.

Try taping on the plate with a light hammer?

So the stator ring is stuck to the trigger ring than correct.

That is my assumption. It is stuck to something behind it, I don't kn ow if the stator contacts anything else besides the trigger ring or not. I guess I will go try a rubber mallet to start.

I have a very small pry bar with a 90 deg end that gets into little places.

Looks like a "wonderbar" but is only 5 inches long.

Got it. Has to drill the head on one of the trigger plate screws but got the crank out. Cause of death was bearing failure on the PTO side.

That is why Kenny has suggested replacing the Philips head screws with socket heads, they don't strip out as easily as the originals. All these screws should be locktited with the low strength product. I've had to remove the trigger screws with a vice grips.

It makes sense to replace with the socket heads, but this screw was severely corroded. The other 3 came out fine. I think it sounds like the best course of action when the motor goes together.
