Re: 83 Liquifire pistons
I know DK sells a few different brands of standard bore pistons. I would recommend the Wiseco's as i believe the rest of the "taiwan made" pistons are of poor quality, but i guess its all about what you want. If you want wiseco's, you probably have to get them direct wiseco as DK doesn't list them anymore.

Did not see any Wiesco,s in the DK book. Not sure about the quality of the pistons from Parts Unlimited listed either.
Wade, I,m interested. Shoot me a Pm and tell me cost or what your looking for trade.
Thanks Guys

Chuck,
Jack is working on mine right now. He recommended SPIs if you can't find NOS. There are a few vendors on eBay, around $60 each, including pins and rings.

Re: 83 Liquifire pistons
SPI's are good pistons and they are made in Taiwan.
Aftermarket Taiwan pistons have been used for years by many of us without issue.
The problem is with the ones made in China. Same goes for bearings, roller chain, and most any other machine part made in CHINA. Junk!

Here are some pictures of the Taiwan pistons. I'm almost convinced that they are all made in the same plant and just placed in a different box. The Parts Unlimited pistons I have installed in an engine and I just couldn't pass up Dennis Kirks on line price for the Lemans. I didn't know the brand at the time of ordering but they all have the same part number (09-689), Lemans, Parts Unlimited, SPI.

I think Dustin said it perfectly. It just matters what you are looking for.

Re: 83 Liquifire pistons
Chuck,
I am running WISCO "Pro-lite" piston in my 80. You can get them with iron rings for the chrome bore or chrome rings for the nicasil bores. I am going to run a set of SPI's I have in a stocker I am rebuilding running on stock chrome bores.

Chuck
My best guess is that you will be underwhelmed by Image. Bob has a nice collection of Mercs and other neat stuff, but it is not exactly a hot bed of sled activity in my experience. His website leads you to believe that they do work there, but it looks to me like he farms everything out.
One more thing: watch out for the killer uphill driveway.

Re: 83 Liquifire pistons
SPI's are made in Taiwan. The newer models will come with a teflon coating around the skirts. The ones I ordered for my Trailfire had a hardened crown. I have used these in almost every rebuild for my personal sleds for the past 4 years. I have had great luck with them. I had around 3000 hard miles on a Polaris 700 twin without a single complaint. Wisecos are good but, the SPIs are just as good for half the price in my opinion. My only complaint has been the the rings are really hard to compress sometimes which gets tricky when you're trying to do a mono-block triple by yourself.

Have fun at Image Chuck. I've been there quite a few times and you can count on the highest prices. One thing you can't count on is the mood. One time as nice as can be and the next time it seems like he can't wait for you to leave. Always fun anyway. Awesome collection! Have fun with good ol' bend over Bob.
