WALBRO Wd-34 carb question
WALBRO Wd-34 carb question
I am working on rebuilding a Walbro WD-34 carb. Going to buy the rebuild kit and take a stab at cleaning it up and rebuilding it. Sled hasn't been run in 26 years so I am going thru the fuel system / lines and carb before I attempt to start it. Question I have is it seems by looking at the carb and rebuild kit that it should be fairly simple to take it apart and replace the gasket as I go ?? Any tips from anyone who has done this??? ALSO on the left side of the carb as you are sitting on the sled. It has a L and an H I assume for the low and high speed setting. I only have a set screw in the L setting??? should there be one in the HH side? BUT I have a set screw up on top of the carb? Is this normal? Thanks for any help you could give me---JIM

Re: ALBRO Wd-34 carb question
The big screw on top of the carb is the main ( high speed ) mixture screw.
The idle mixture is on the left, the idle speed is on the throttle shaft on the right.
If you have something different, shoot us a photo.
The on-line service manual will help greatly. Pay attention to the metering lever, so that it is still correctly set when you reassemble the carb.

Re: WALBRO Wd-34 carb question
Many of them have the two holes in the side, but only use one of them for the idle mixture, the other is plugged.

Don't use anything really abrasive to take old gasket material off between plates, especially metal gasket scrapers. Go slow take your time i rebuilt my first WD last fall with excellent results.

Re: WALBRO Wd-34 carb question
Hi Jim
If that one is like the WRA-31 and the WDA-32, be sure not to loose those 3 little springs under the second plate. The carb just won't work correctly without them. another thing, if you decide to pull the choke butterfly and shaft, be very careful not to loose the detent ball and spring that is bored into the right side of the carb. Also, i usually use gasket remover and a scotch brite pad to get the gaskets off. Then give everything a good cleaning. Take special care when removing the 3 blue screws from the circuit plate as they have a tendancy to break off or strip out. Good luck!
