walbro carb rebuild issues

Post by 2strokedave »

I have a wd8 carb and it has sat 15+ years the metering diaphram and the lever have rusted considerably I bought the rebuild kit and they are included in kit so it says but the kits do not contain them any more dose anyone have an idea as to what would clean up the corrosion but not harm the rubber on the diaphram
Thanks

Also do not tear down a walbro unless every gasket comes off whole "full rebuild kit" comes with about 1/2 the required gaskets and their packing list include every thing you need so be aware that they are not true rebuild kits just random gasket and springs the rest are discontinued even though it states its included . don't want any one else to ruin their carb like I did

You're saying it doesn't have the metering plate? Who makes the kit? The brand new Winderosa kits fuel pump kits I have for the store do still have the metering plate, but I'll have to check on the full rebuild kits.

The kit is made by walbro it is missing the rubber gasket with the circle metal diaphram in the center among other parts but thats the one that was corroded and the gasket ripped. I looked at the one on the parts site and it looks to be from a different walbro I have a ed-85 from a 72 500a john deere with a kec-440 ccw

That's really strange it didn't come with that. Mine always have. I think you may be able to buy just the diaphragm from MFGsupply.

I'm wondering if you got a kit for a WF series carb? thats how it sounds. I've never had any issues with the walbro kits or the winderosa kits.

Walbro said its for carb but those parts are no longer available but I did just find a diaphram kit on eBay ended up buying it just for the 1 gasket but its better than having to scrap the carb
On a side note walbro says the kit is for every w series except wda-1
