Two years of searching, searching, and searching. I was able to find NOS parts from a few guys who have JD snowmobile yards in Saskatchewan and Alberta. I also found quite a bit on ebay, and I had help from a couple guys on here- JDSleds. I have also had an add on Kijiji for two years which helped.
Just a quick note,
I have contacted (messaged) sellers on ebay who sell JD parts, and some of them have NOS snowmobile parts that they dont list. If you have the time, it can pay off.

Oh ok nice I've used that trick before too. That works really well. Did you get any of the parts from Rich? I know he has a lot of parts for the 72s he helped me out on mine.

OK, so I just figured out that I made a boo boo :bonk:
I used the hood off of a 1974 300 for my 1972 400 restoration and didnt realize until now that the hoods have different left and right hood mounts. I have the hood mounts (M63908 and M63909) on this hood which means that I need the (AM52318 and AM52319) left and right hood latches. I have the 1972 (AM52192 and AM52193) hood latches on mine and I dont have the correct ones to switch. NOW I CANT LATCH THE HOOD.
How did I miss that one????

OKAY, so I found really nice crome molding for the windshield. I decided to use it in a few other places as well. I ran it along the outer/upper lip of the front/side of tunnel where they originally used a black tape-like protector. I also ran it along the inner edge of the access grill hole in the hood to protect the paint from the access grill. I also used rubber protectors on the hood latch and mounts to protect the paint, which also helps snug everything up when you latch the hood. I was also able to get the exhaust and muffler in.
I think the chrome trimming looks awsome

As you can see, the chrome trim along tunnel lip works really well.

I've been wondering about the pan edge myself. The tape thing doesn't excite me that much, can I ask where you got the chrome trim? And will it stay on?

Hi Brian,
I picked it up at Parts Source. I attached a pick of the packaging for you to see. It fits very snug, has a glue inside and will definately stay on. It is very good quality, and looks like it will last a long time.
