Post by nhjdfire440 »

Hi guys I have got my hands on a 1982 Snowfire!!!! Now this is the first time that I have ever had a JD that has any sort of rarity to it. And I was just wondering how much you guys think it is worth. It is all origional, turns over, has spark, very good body and track. Hopfully the pictures work let me know what you think.

The vin is J34xl 190058m and the build date is 10-81. I Got it up in timbuck to in maine. It was origionaly a wifes sled and she never really used it. That couple has sinced past and i bought the sled from their son. The bad part about it is that there is no speedometer so i have no clue at how many miles are on it. All and all there isnt much wrong with it other than the small rips in the back of the seat cover. I even got an origional cover with it too. Along with the whole deal i also got the husbands sled. that is 1979 trailfire 440 but that was used alot more and i even think he groomed with it too but it quite rustic over all. But all in all it was a pretty good package deal.

Very nice find!
Personally, if its complete, original with no damage and you cleaned it up and put some time into it, I would value it at the original value for now $2599, but thats just how I feel.

I can give you my opinion. While very rare at 175 Snowfires and 156 Sprintfires built in 10/81 for the 1982 model year, they don't go for crazy money all the time. I just paid $300 for one for example. They are worth a premium over a simular condition 83, and should be worth more than an 84, but don't always sell for that. Restored to 'as delivered' they are worth quite a bit more of course. And it original "as delivered" hoods and other parts also add significant value as most all the 82's were updated with many 83 parts by the factory.

Value is only what someone else would pay for it, so it could be worth anywhere from $400 to $1,000 to the right buyer. It also depends on if the seller knows what it is or not. I once scored an 82 Sprint for $175:>)

I hope this helps,

Hi Jeffrey,

Just calling it like I see it :D No doubt other members are more into these early build than I am, and may place a different value on them. But I do have the documentation from Deere describing the early release program and the update for the 83 season.

Funny how these things go, I've been on the lookout for one for at least 10 years, but never found one. My buddie in Canada found one this spring, and then another one this fall that he kindly passed onto me. If I remember it correctly, the 82 Sprintfire is the rarest Deere built, and the 82 Snowfire is the 3rd rarest. Unfortunately, (or fortunately if your a buyer) that doesn't put them into Dator territory, at least not yet.

Another member, Robb Lamppa has some of the nicest restored one I've even seen. Robb, if you read this, please post a few pic's of your beauties.

I personally love the 82 Snow's & Sprint's. More so the 82 Sprint's because they are easier to pick out in a crowd with the open hoods. I am up to 4 1982 Sprints and I have open hoods for all of them. Like Joe said, you probably won't get a lot for that 1982 Snow even though it is a rare beast. Maybe up to $2500 for an impeccable sled. Considerably less for anything less. The Snowfire you show in these pics has the factory replacement hood, not the hand laid fiberglass hood. That will bring the value down quite a bit as will the damaged seat. My guess is that you have a $500-600 sled there. More if you get several people who are willing to duke it out on the price and maybe less if there is no interest at all. I am not on my home computer. I will post pics in the morning once I have a chance.

And Joe, I finally boxed up your bumper, now I just need to find your address again so I can get it out. I know it's been forever but it is coming your way.

Motor parts are easy to find on these sleds. Seats, fiberglass hoods, & tracks are not.
