Sprintfire Piston and Rings Wanted

Post by JoeRainville »

Hi Guys,

After infamously baking the motor in Cari's Sprintfire last year during the vintage challenge, I have rounded up almost all the NOS parts I need to rebuild it. I am short one piston and both rings.

Cari will be joining us at the HOF this year, and would like her little Deere ready for the womans ride.

I am aware that these parts are not comon to find, but I was lucky enough to find one single ring piston at the A-1 show.

Let me know if you can help, have cash or many NOS parts available for trade.

Thanks,
-Joe Rainville

Kenny,

I have 340 Trailfire and Spitfire pistons. "I think" they are close dimentionally, but the Sprint has and iron bore, not chrome. So you need chrome or chromemolly rings. The iron rings won't hold up more than 600 or 800 miles I am told.

I might be able to get a set of iron rings coated, I am check into it. Wisco ti-nitrided my race rings last year for example.

There is a Ski-Doo/Rotax piston Wiseco old number 2308PS ( std ) new Wiseco # 2308M06200, which is a 62 mm piston for a 377 engine type ( 368 CC ), for a older
( 1981) 377 Nordic all the way up to a ( 2006 ) MXZ380, This piston is for a Cast Iron cyl. Bore & has a 18 mm pin. I'm not sure if it will work??? BUT it might be worth looking into, 2002 list price was 79.40 a piston/W rings.. Now the Sprintfire cyl. would have to be bored IF this piston would even work, about .0787"..

Just a thought??

Kenny

** Note** I see there is 10 available Std. Bore single ring SPI pistons for the MXZ380 right now at a Buy It Now for $53.96 on Ebay..

Joe,

I have two used pistons/rings that you are welcome to. Here's the deal: I pulled them out of a good running motor but replaced them with one NOS set that I have(I'm now down to one full set left). I pretty much had everything I needed to build a NOS Sprint motor. Now here's the rub: like I said, the motor ran just fine, but when I put these rings back in a NOS cylinder they are out of range when it comes to factory specs on ring gap yet it ran fine. So then I check a NOS set of rings that I have in the NOS cylinder and they were out of factory spec as well as far as ring gap, go figure?????? So anyway, to make a short story long they are yours for FREE since I have held your front bumper for so long. I can get them both your way this week if you'd like them.

Rob,

I will take your very generous offer! However, I will have to at least trade you something or such.

The bummer was that Cari's motor only had about 850 miles on it when I trashed it. Pretty sure the last owner didn't do seals when he "completely went through the sled"

Joe (and others) -
Joe, looks like you have your quest filled for what you need for your Sprintfire engine but here is a contact from being in the hobby of antique tractors and gas engines that might be helpful for Sprintfire rings (or other engines in the future). It looks that they will also make custom pistons as well:

Rob,

I will be home every weekend until Christmas, then the entire week between the holidays. Thanks for sending the parts so I can get Cari's sled back together.

I owe you something for the parts...let me know.

-Joe

PS: Monte, thank you for your offer, but it looks like I am all set for now. (Unless of course, I bake another motor:>)

Joe,

That dreaded bumper is coming. You owe me nothing for the Sprint parts.
