I was recently given 2 jd snowmobiles a Sportfire and Trailfire, the clutch on the trailfire is slightly bent. I have found a polaris clutch that has the same shaft size but I think they use a 1 3/8" belt versus 1 1/4", will that still work? The clutch i'm looking at is off of a 85 indy trail 440. It's going on a 79 440 Trailfire.
The snowmobile was rolled by the previous owners grandson I think that's what bent the clutch. The engine is currently tore apart as crank seal on the clutch side was leaking, and that cylinder wasn't firing, found out that one of the crank bearings was bad as well, so I ended up pulling the 3 outside bearings and ordered 3 more to replace them.

Re: Polaris clutch on a Trailfire?
If the clutch was "bent", and the seal and bearing were both out of the PTO side of the crank, i'm willing to bet the crank is bent or twisted as well.

Re: Polaris clutch on a Trailfire?
I hope the crank isn't bent, after I pulled the clutch I pulled the starting rope a few times and it looked ok, although I was doing it by myself so couldn't look that close. The bearing that was out still had all the balls in it and the bearing right next to it was still good.

Re: Polaris clutch on a Trailfire?
You may have an issue with clearance if using a Polaris primary clutch as the Polaris fixed sheeve is thicker than the 102c. We set up a '80 Sportfire for oval racing and converted the clutches from Comet to Polaris. We had to machine about .020 off the back side of the Polaris primary fixed sheeve to prevent it from rubbing the bulkhead when cornering. I don't know if clearance would be a concern with a Trailfire but wanted to give you a heads up. [Sorry for the late reply, have not been on site for awhile]
