Not really sure I support alot of the methods used in this resurection but, the sentiment of the story trancends most of the tomfoolery. None the less it is a classic tale of the mutual bond between father and son in law. The Liquifire merely symbolizes what is right in this world. If only our countries leaders could get together and get a snowmobile running again. Dare I say it might just make the world a better place?

Tune in next week for more of masterpiece blogs with tales of mystery, intrigue and............murder

I quit reading at the line " It took us a couple cans of Ether, but we did get it to start." Thats where i was no longer interested in this story. That engine will never make it through the season. Just my $0.02.

I'm still looking for the third Mkuni carb...and while I'd never use ether today it was very common around the farm growing up. On a really cold day a squirt into the airbox was all that was needed. That sled (80 trailfire) gave me thousands of trouble free miles over 10+ years.

Well, it's not exactly a handbook to get a 35 year old sled running reliably (it will likely have to be towed off the trail at any minute) but they have the right idea, which is, a vintage machine you worked on yourself is more fun to ride.

I believe that close to 86% or even more sleds fall victim to this type of ether abuse at least once in there lifetime. Some sleds never come back others wander the trails or hide under blue tarps waiting for thier next fix. I have a Spitfire that was not responding to my intense mechanical therapy program. I went out to the clinic today only to find it staring blankly into the distance. Today I opened the barn door and within the dimly lit recovery room I saw a spark of life as it focused its cyclopsian eye on the 2 to 4 inches snow that continues to fall.

I know that the trail to recovery is a long one but it appears that we are headed in the right direction. We will make it together, one cleat at a time.

Merry Christmas!

At the end of this article there was a comment to not use unleaded gas with ethanol. (Comment) "One thing, if the unleaded you're using has ethanol, be aware that that it will DESTROY the carbs, and fuel pump diaphragms. Make an effort to find unoxygenated fuel to save yourself some major headaches." What are anyone's thoughts on this comment? Thanks.

There was definitely some truth to that statement about the ethanol. Ethanol is great at eating up gaskets and gumming up the carbs. I wouldn't say it destroys them, but it definitely doesn't help.

It's the water that Ethanol attracts that causes the problems - Keep the moisture out of the fuel, and use fuel stabilizer, and you will be fine. He mentioned using a lead additive, that isn't necessary.

After having screwed up a good Trailfire LX myself a few years back, that story makes me cringe.

Exactly. The 10% ethanol in the fuel won't hurt a thing. My Eagle Talon see's nothing but E85, and makes about 500whp on a 20 yr old fuel system, thats stock other than a cheap walbro pump and cheap injectors, and its fine. I also run one of my dirtbikes on it, as its good for about a 5-10% power increase. I'm tempted to put my 295/s on it, just so I never have an det problems and cook a piston.

I may be stating the obvious here, but just so no one does this without thinking it through...

I assume you would have to significantly re-jet to run E-85 in a carburetor fed 2-stroke?

Looks like adding insult to injury to me. I quit reading it and will refrain from derogatory comments.
