twin carbed JDX8?

Post by kiedro44 »

Has anyone ever seen a '73 JDX8 set up with twin carbs? I'm wondering if it'd make much difference and if there were ever aftermarket intakes for this sort of set up? :letitsnow:

It's been done. You need a 76-78 Liquifire intake manifold, carbs, fuel pump, choke cable, throttle cable, and you need to modify or replace the throttle grip, as the stock one won't open the slides all the way.

i did an x4 with an 800 motor , its tons of fun , used a trailfire i think throttle lever on it to get the carbs to open most all the way , otherwise its a bolt on deal , used liquifire jetting and it seems really close wade

Must be a differnce in the Grips? Would a Cyclone Liquifire Grip work?

the placement of the pin is the difference , yes a cyclone grip will work fine but its a different style than the 72-74 sleds , i wanted to stay with the 74 grip on mine so i came up with the trailfire lever deal wade

Wade since you've done it how is it? I have a second X8 that's seen some rough use so I was thinking a trying this? Will they fit under shroud? Thanks

Bob, I have not done this myself but I could see some fitment issues if you used a filter on the carbs. I don't belive the manifolds are any different in size. The only issue would be in using a filter of some kind behind the carb as there is no way the airbox will fit in there.

Also using stock 440 LF jetting you should watch close as the no air box will lean out the mix a little.

Yea Scott i figuered Id have to run cone filters or something? And I know those probably werent gonna fit. I will have to start lookin for the manifold. I assume thats the hardest thing to find! Thanks.

K&N has a 4" long one that is on a 20 degree angle. If you angled them down and took the glove box out there might be clearance. It will be tight no matter what you do, but there is always a way to make it work.

Yea true! I'd probably just run it open without the shroud. Only probably be a yard sled.

mine has stock 440 l/f jetting with no air box , it has the tool box liner in it but would prolly run better without it because it is very much in front of the carbs but as stated its not really much of a rider i have ripped it a few times a short distace across he pasture and its tons of fun but more for conversation , wade
