Does anyone know what the test specs are for testing the stator, coil on a 79 Sptifire? I have no spark and would like to test some of the other components before I buy a cdi box. Is there a way to test the cdi?
Thanks

As a general rule one can not test a CDI with 100% accuracy. The best test is to temporarly install a know good box and check for spark.
But you can use an OHM meter to check for shorts and opens. But this can get involeved as there can be as many as 8 wires on some CDI's.
Stators are much easier to test. Most have 4-5 wires so the combinations or pairs to read are less.
What you don't want to see are shorts(zero ohms) or opens(infinate ohms).
Someone may chime in here with the actual ohm reads and the tolerences.
Keep in mind that kill switches, key switches and tethers are always suspect.
Eliminate them from the system by unplugging the engine to chassis connector and pull the engine over.
Note here that if the problem was in the chassis portion of the harness the engine will have spark and may start up.
But without the harness connected you can't shut is off.
Also there seams to be a lot of barn find Spits that have bad CDI's.
Remember there is always a reason that the previous owner stopped riding the thing and loss of spark will do it every time.
