Hood for 340s

Post by MWB »

I am in need of a good hood for a 340s. Mine is ABS and I understand they can't be repaired. So I am looking for suggestions or see if there are any decent hoods out there for sale.

Thanks! :letitsnow:

"Dator" Bob, can you respond to this? Didn't you get an ABS hood repaired. Standby MWB until we get an answer.

Hey guys these hood can be repaired. But the problem is they are so britle that it is just going to break again.I have thought about taking fiberglass mesh and resin and coat the whole inside of the hood, to give it strength then i think you could repair them, and last.It would just look like a hand laid hood and be heavier. But by the time you do all that you would be ahead off to just buy a repoped one.Brock

I have an ABS hood on my 340/S. You have to handle it carefully, as it creaks and pops if you flex it.

I also have one of the repro hoods. In my opinion; the fit of the ABS hood is far superior to that of the repro, which I suspect was molded from one of the original glass hoods.

This is why Raindeere has talked about getting repros made, pulling the mold from a ABS hood.

The only damage to the ABS hood was a crack at the front edge, in-line with the right hold down pin.
I attempted a repair by gluing a square of 1/8" thick black plastic to the area with a contact adhesive.
So far...so good.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Sorry I haven't got back to the site for awhile. Been busy! Just got back from a vintage ride up in Harbor Springs MI. Rode my 69 Johnson. What a blast! Hoping to have the 340s ready for next year. :needsnow:
