tach for 340 cyclone
Have a 76 cyclone without a tach and cant find one here in manitoba. Is there one off something else that I can use or must it come from a 340 kiortz motor and where does the wiring go? The wiring diagram isnt that clear and I dont want to smoke the cdi.

Todd,
The JD part # for the tach is AM53193. This tach was used on snowmobiles from serial number 55,001 with the Kioritz 340/440 engine and had CDI type ignition. The tach plugs in directly to the wiring harness behind the dash area. It is wired into the lighting circuit. This is how it is wired:

tach for 340 cyclone
Found a factory tach at a dealer, been sitting on the shelf for thirty years and I got it for $25. You say I should have a loose plug hanging behind the dash somewhere?
Also, how do I rewind my recoil, tried for an hour yesterday, couldnt do it!

Thanks, I will look for the plug when I get home. Is there a specialty tool for the recoil,or is it the cuss words?

I've tryed hand winding those springs - don't bother with the cuss words, just throw the spring through the window and save yourself the headache.
Dennis Kirk has replacement springs.
I'm not aware of anyone that sells the rewinding tool.
If you look in a tech manual they show a picture of the tool. Once you see a picture of it you'll see it isn't very difficult to make.

Todd,
If you did not rewind the recoil yet, here is a picture of the recoil tool.

tach for 340 cyclone
Todd,
I installed a tach on my cyclone. I will look at mine and maybe I could send a picture. The plug under the dash is a 3 wire female type plug which will have a black wire , a brown wire and a double yellow wire. The yellow/red strip wire from the tach plugs directly into the black wire of the connector.
The Red wire from the tach plugs directly into the brown wire of the connecter.
The yellow wire of the tach plugs into the yellow wires of the connector, which go the light bulb of the speedo. The tach must be grounded good by the mounting bracket.
