new carb seals, still leaking..?
i just installed a new gasket set on my walbro wd31 off a 77 john deere 300. i have assembled and disassembled it a couple times but cant seem to stop it from spitting fuel out the back off it.
is there anything i need to know that i may not be doing? i dont want to super tight those four screws in case they snap or strip the carburator holes.
let me know if anyone has came across this problem
thanks!

To clarify, where is the gas coming from? Is it spitting out from the intake or actually leaking from some where?

It sounds like you may need to adjust the metering lever. I had the same problem with one of my WD's. If it's not adjusted right it will leak out of the overflow.
Thanks,
Brian

oh ok ill check it again. its coming out the back of it (the side thats pointed toward the engine)
where is the overflow located?
its hard to tell because its awkward to pull it and look at the same time but it looks like its coming out from in between one of the fuel pump plates....
thanks guys!

I don't remember exactly where it is because it's been a while, but that does sound right.

My 76 400 was leaking fuel from between the plates when i rebuilt it last year, took a couple times to disassemble and reassemble, but i finally found a small bur on the metal from a screwdriver when i took the plates apart. I carefully cleaned that up and it was sealed from there on out.

Re: new carb seals, still leaking..?
i was at it again today and am ready to give up!
i have taken it apart many times trying different things. I can confirm that it is leaking out from a little overflow hole thats in the second plate from the bottom.
i have adjusted the metering arm up and down and nothing seems to change it. it starts for a second and then gas starts spitting out and it wont start after that.
im really not sure what it is, and have reached my boiling point with it

Are you sure you have the carb lines hooked up correct?
The fitting on the side is the impulse line that goes to the engine case.

Re: new carb seals, still leaking..?
im wondering if maybe a gasket is leaking internally and causing gas to enter somewhere its not supposed to and is being spit out. the diaphram kit i got is made by spx or something like that, i heard good things about them.

All I can think is either A: like Brian said one of the ridges on the plates was ground down, B the gasket kit is defective, C it's assembled incorrectly.

Re: new carb seals, still leaking..?
i gave up and am looking for a new carb. does anyone know which ones work? theres a wd 35 on ebay but not sure if it will work or not...
one last thing, that metering level arm...its supposed to be a hair above the actual carburator housing if you are holding it upside down correct?? its kind of difficult understanding it in my manual.

Re: new carb seals, still leaking..?
Just to update this for reference, I bought another carb gasket kit, it was a winderosa and it is now running fine. The SPX or whatever brand didn't work.

Out of curiosity, where did you buy the winderosa kit from? Would you happen to still have the mfg part #?
Thanks,
Thanks,
