76 440 liquifire
76 440 liquifire
I took my 76 LF mod out for it's first run today! The engine is ported, head shaved, AAEN pipes, 38mm mikuni carbs and a polaris skid and track.
I was thrilled when I took off and felt air under the skis! great ride until the chain case started leaking! The clutching is off on top ( 60mph@7500RPM) So I'll
have to play with that and suspension does not feel right and check on what is up with chain case! With the plastic skis the sled handled great! I'll try to post some pics!

Re: 76 440 liquifire
Thanks guys
Yesterday I pulled the chain case apart and found I had not tightened a axle flange bolt! Loosened the spring adjustment on the suspension and changed the clutch spring to black. Now to wait for the weather to warm up to continue testing! Chain case has the 340 (21-39)gears and I also have Hydraulic brakes. The plastic skis are off a 2007 yamaha, 24 inch yamaha springs and used a wood router to clear out the front of the ski for the spring. Reading about other members projects on this great site made my project possible!! Thanks Dave

Hey Dave That sled looks awsome , I have a 76 waiting in line for a resto. Just might have to apply a couple things you did to mine like that suspension and skis. Great Job! Ed

Nicely done!!! Do you have any pics of your hydraulic brake set up?
Re: 76 440 liquifire
I think so,
This is all I have right now. 80's polaris ebay set up! I think I paid $30 for it, cleaned and installed. JD brake pad on chaincase side, polaris spacer and pad on other side. I did change the brake sensor to the front because it was too close to gas tank and didn't want it to rub. Works great! Next time will shot for a parking brake on handle! Dave
Re: 76 440 liquifire
Forgot to mention the chaincase is off a 1980 Liquifire with the roller chain tension-er!

Just curious, how much effect did the air filters have on the jetting. Curious as to how you adjusted for the change from the stock airbox. I have some pods I would like to run on mine, but was wondering how far I would have to go on the main to get it close. I have a Dial A Jet coming this week to help.

The pods are there just to keep the snow out. The carbs are Mikuni 38mm,2.5 slides,340 mains,40 pilots,6dh3 needle c-clip on #4 slot,166-qo needle jet and a
7.5 fuel valve. Still in tuning stage. Last run 10 miles and plugs are dark tan and weather was 15 degree's. With the 21-39 gears, f weights, black spring it ran very fast to 65 mph at 7400rpm. Rpm stayed at 7400 then slowly gained speed to about 74 mph. Good luck with your LF, Dave
