Jdx 6 first ride.
Jdx 6 first ride.
I took the one pull wonder out and ran it around the yard for 3 days with my kids. This is the first winter its had since 1978. I replaced the carb with a nos carb basically because I got the carb cheaper than the fuel pump kit for the original carb. Any way there is no happy medium with the high speed screw. If it is 10 degrees out I have to turn the screw in 3/4 of a turn. Today it was 40 and I had to turn the screw back out to get it to start. It usually starts on the first pull but today it didnt. I pulled both plugs and they were black. My guess is there is to much oil or it didnt mix well. It runs very well and it should as it only has 400 original miles. Think my problem is just to much oil or crappy oil? It is a 73 jdx 6 with the ccw motor. Thanks

The high speed setting should not effect starting.
Low speed yes.
Did you replace crank seals after it sat for 33 years???

Re: Jdx 6 first ride.
It got new crank seals this summer along with new points. The old points were good but I figured while I was in it They were cheap. I didnt figure the high speed jet would affect starting. I suspect that I doubled the dose of oil. I have a 3 yearold that loves to help dad and I think I let him add the oil to the tank figuring on filling it with gas and when I filled it full of gas I mixed that gas and added it to the tank. I am pretty sure this is whats going on and its fouling plugs which is probably why I cant get a good carb adjustment. The things I let my kid do to keep him from losing my tools. I am going to try it again today. It wouldnt run unless I backed out the screw on the carb. It didnt do this till this tank of gas so I think I am going to start with fresh gas and a new mix.
