Wanted: 80 LF drag link and some info

Gents,

I'm looking for a NOS or a good used drag link for my 1980 Liquifire, I think it's part # AM55318 (AM54986), as the one I'm fixing up for my buddy is just too loose to be safe.

If someone in Canada had this it would be really great as shipping can be a nightmare from US to Can

I'm also curious about the chaincase on this model, when I bought the sled the driveshaft was out of the clutch side bearing, now that I put it back together I see that someone had taken it apart befor and put the bearing in the wrong spot allowing it to fall out, but now that I'm trying to put the chaincase back together I can see someone was in there monkeying around and I'm not sure if I'm missing anything.

All I can tell is that I have piece number 9, but when I put the chain in and tighten the tensioner bolt I have to thread the bolt in almost all the way just to get tension on the chain, and the bolt is about 4"'s and I maybe have 3/4" left? Am I missing something? Anyone know how many teeth are supposed to be in the chain? I can seem to find it on the parts pic?

Differnt gears and chain lengths will cause your problem. I would get the right chain length so you still have adjustment available. But thats my 2cts.

I have the stock gears and chain that were in it, a used another chain I had only because the original had a few damaged links when the shaft fell out, but their exactly the same length

Serial #'s 120,000 - 190,000 should have:

At sea level to 4000 feet

Top gear - 22 tooth
Bottom gear - 35 tooth
Chain - 66 pitch

4000 feet and above sea level

Top gear - 22 tooth
Bottom gear - 42 tooth
Chain - 70 pitch

I would double check to make sure you have the stock gears and chain.

when i think of a draglink , i think of steering parts , are you refurring to the drive chain , maybe a regional thing ? lol ive got several 80 l/fs for parts i bet i could help with whatever you may need wade

Could you take it to a machine shop and have someone make one on a cnc machine.

I've been thinking about this. Its a very complicated part to have made. Now, thats not saying it couldn't be done, but what i was wondering is if the fixed end of the drag link couldn't be cut off, then drilled and tapped to accept a replaceable tie rod end the correct size? Just a thought...

But it's the end that's wrecked, it's too loose and no way to get the slack out, but it's welded solid so no way to just screw off and make another work.
