lighting on jd 300

Post by jdcat »

Hi & great site. I own a 72 292 lynx & a 74 jd 300.Finally got the 300 running. My bulbs were burnt out,Dimmer switch shot. I was not getting any power to my headlight. What i did was run a hot wire from my dash into the headlight ,which now works.Problem is it idles nice untill i turn on the headlight. When i do this the rpms jump up & down.Never had a problem like this,Could it be from the dimmer switch,I did switch my headlight connector from 3 prong ,to two & now run a high beam only headlight. Also have new rings,Would this problem change as the rings seat,{havent been able to break them in yet. thanks

the headlight shouldant affact anything in the engine unless it is calling for mor power to power the bulb. Like a car it ideals smooth untill yo turn the ac on and it senses it and makes it idel faster thats the only reason i can think of your asking too much because the wire run from the das it isnt used to have to power a headlight. Also do all your other bulbs work. Just a thought could be completly wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I think your right,Its a high beam light.Ill try a low beam if i can find one.I couldnt see paying the $40.00 for the right headlight when my dimmer is frooze up.The headlight i used is likely a tractor light which doesnt show the watt.s . I think ill have this ole 300 in good shape now if i could get the drive belt aligned without the jd tool they recommend to use. thanks.

If you go to the home page of this site, you will find a wiring diagram for 00 series sleds ( under tech ? ). Perhaps you should take a look, and see where and what you have connected the lights to?

$40.00 for a headlight? they sell them at Autozone for $8.00. I've been using
GE 5006 bulbs and they work fine

Rich you are always such a wealth of knowledge......I remember just last yr explaining on the board how you can use the the type of bulb blitzblack is talking about instead of the $25-30 type parts suppliers are selling. I use the halogen type in fact at about $6. Your explination really puts it all in perspective!!!!!!!!
