what size threads crankshaft 79 trailfire

Post by johnpdo »

Need some help. I boogered up the threads on the end of the crankshaft while trying to pull the flywheel off. I need a new nut and need to clean up the threads on the crank. Anyone know the size and pitch of the nut and crank? The part number is M68143 and is listed as a Nut 18 mm, but what is the pitch. Any ideas on the threads. Where do I get the treads re-done? If I do it myself, where do I get a tap/die set that will be big enough. Help!
BTW, the clutch was a b.... getting off, and the flywheel is off, but as above, the nut is toast and the threads are damaged, but only on the end.

You can by a 18MM die at any Auto Parts Store or Sears, ect.
They may not have it in stock but can get it ordered for you.

Most Auto Parts stores will have a thread guage at their counter so you can determine pitch.
Just take the crank in and they can measure it.

It is not a cheap tool.
Borrow one if you can and tell them you are only chasing, nut cutting.
They are more likely to loan you one if your chasing as it will come back in good shape.
