JD Snowmobile Book

Post by Dick Teal »

To all Deere collectors,

As many of you know we've been working on the history of Deere sleds. It looks like we'll have it at the publishers this summer in time for Christmas sales. I think you'll enjoy all of the information and history including rare pictures, etc.

I'm in need of a couple special magazine articles and someone on here will have it. The first is the Snowgoer evaluation of the 1976 Cyclone & Liquifier and the second is the Snowgoer editors comments about his broken leg while testing the 1976 Liquifier. The second may be in a later issue.

If you find either of these I would like a scanned jpeg file if possible. A copy can work or the magazine if necessary and I will scan it and send it back to you.

My address and e-mail is;

Thanks for your patience,

Hello Dick,

Great to hear about the book, and no doubt we are looking forward to it. I have the Snow Goer reprint of the articals about the 76 Liquifire and Cyclone. I will try to scan them in this weekend and get them to you.

Glad to hear this book is being written by the guys that were involved with developing and testing the sleds. Hope to see lots of prototype picture, we like pictures :beers;

Boy I am looking forward to this book. Thank you for this effort.

Has a book ever been written on the history of the I500? I read with interest a thread on vintage sleds website detailing winners of the various years and I wondered has anyone ever chronicled the race and all of its stories?

Don't know of any books but rumor has it there might be an I-500 website one of these days. I think the prospects of that are very exciting. Finally, the real truth about the 1973 I-500 will be told with regard to how close I came to beating Stan Hayes that year. The only thing that kept me from beating him was the 69 sleds between us at the finish. :(

Joe,

Were you able to find the 1976 Cyclone/Liquifier Snowgoer article?

Anyone else out there have this?

Joe,

Scanning would be best because I'm at our winter home in Florida till the end of the month. I have great software to fix your scans if they need it including straightening them. Make sure to scan at a high resolution.

If it's easier to mail please do so and I will send it back to you after I scan it. We're leaving here on the 28th of the month to go back to Wisconsin so it would have to get here before then or else you could send it to Horicon.

E-mail me on what you want to do and I will give you either or both addresses. teal@charter.net

Hello Dick,
I went through my tote with old magazines and below is my inventory of Deere tests.

Sno Goer....
Sept 76 77 LF
Oct 79 80 Trailfire 340
Sept 74 75 JDX8
Dec 77 78 LF
Nov 78 79 Trailfire 440
Sept 79 80 LF
Nov 73 74 JDX8
Oct 75 76 Cyclone 440
Nov 76 77 Cyclone 340
Oct 77 78 Spitfire
Dec/Jan 81 81 Trailfire 440

Invitation to Snowmobiling...
Oct 73 74 JDX8

I have a flatbed scanner and know how to use it.

I did not look for a article about a broken leg as I really have too much to look through. If you could narrow it down some that would help.

Looking forward to a signed copy of your book too...

Hello Dick,

I will be in NY again from the 29th until April 8th. I promise I will get that darn artical scanned in and sent to you. Last trip home was crazy hectic and too short. This working in Texas and living in NY is nuts:>)

Thanks,
-Joe
