Will a 76 Liquifire clutch work on a Trailfire

Post by StrictNine »

Will the clutch from a 76 Liquifire 440 fit a 79 Trailfire 440? I'm mainly worried that the shaft is different.

Thanks guys.

The shaft is the same, should fit right on, the color of the spring should be silver for a 440 and white for a 340. Torque to 50 ft-lbs

No, even tho the shaft is the same size, the Fire Series sleds use a different style of Comet 102 clutch. The difference is in the off-set or the depth of the tapered hole that is drilled..

Is it possible to take out spacers on the secondary to line up with the primary or are there no spacers in there? I found a 76 liquifire clutch for pretty cheap, thought it might be worth getting.

The clutch on my brothers sled is in pretty bad shape, the weights are eating into the spider. I'm not wanting to put a lot of money into the sled, it was given to us as a parts sled and is kind of banged up, but it runs good after welding the muffler. The clutch still works fine, maybe I could add some spacers to reposition the weights.

edit: From reading some more it looks like the clutch would be out of alignment by 3/16" :bonk:

The CCW version of the 102-C has a deeper bore depth than the Kawi spec unit. When you bolt an early Liquifire 102-C to a Trail, Sport or Liquifire, the clutch typically hits the frame.

Most of the other parts interchange however.

I hope this helps,
