Identify early/late flywheel and stator

Post by SIIaCanuck »

How can one identify the flywheel and stator from an early Fireburst compared with one fitted with the HSR ignition?

What engine serial number did the HSR start at?

I do not see much written on engine serial numbers here but the chassis numbers and great photos are in the Deere service manual available online for free. Then read the thread above this one, on the differences between the 80 to 81 and the 82 thru 84's. Some HRSI info not in the service manual.

I might be off but I think all HSRI had the starter gear on the flywheel. But, it was also an add on to the non HSRI as part of the electric start kit. Someone posted pics of that on this site awhile back too.

A few years back I spent a few bucks and hours of time tracking down a new stator and CDI for my 83 liquifire. I was told after the fact a non HSR stator will work with the HSR CDI unit. I have pictures of the HSR parts somewhere
