just go to wiseco's web site email custom made pistons, Al Pizzo their special orders guy and he will let you know. It sound like they have some fancy equipment to cut down on tooling fees.

Approx 25 sets so far.
Re: 340/spistons
Chuck,
I would be in for two sets.
I dealt with Al Pizzo at Wiseco a couple of years ago when I built my I-500 sled. Custom parts are not cheap, but he was very good to work with.

Re: 340/spistons
OK i talked to Al today....... Not sure if special tooling needs to be done but i know that there was a post some time ago from PJ and Kenny about these pistons. Just cant find it but if i remember right they were quoted something like $4000 for the tooling.Al told me that was the starting price for re-tooling..... If wrong please correct me........ So here is where my wonderful public education kicks in.
$4000 + 80 pistons or 40 sets @$80 per piston = $10,400.................. Now take the 10,400 and divide by 80 pistons = $130 per piston just to break even.
Now Al told me that nobody ever sent him a piston for this particular sled and nobody even brought this up.< kind of think he,s wrong on this one but thats the way it goes>.
If tooling doesnt need to be done we forget the $4000 but if it does it could go beyond the 4 grand......Need to talk Kenny on this one as he may have info on last attempt.
Bottom line................For me i do have about 12 great condition used pistons to keep my sleds running. I see lots of Guys with parts sleds that they would like to fix up, enjoy and ride without the worry of smoking a piston or at least get that classic running again. These pistons will not get any cheaper and i think its time to buck-up on this one or wait until somebody finds a major stash tucked away and all the troubles will disappear. Now i,m willing to help on this one but now that you know the story is there any other support out there? or do we forget the whole thing...................Lets talk

Re: 340/spistons
I know we went over allot of this concerning the 295/S pistons. That might be the post you are thinking about. I am all for getting these done. And Hopefully the 295/S pistons at some point also.
Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.

Re: 340/spistons
My recollection is that PJ was sent a piston, but that was several years ago, so I'll defer to Kenny to confirm or deny that.
Lets put this in perspective:
Several years ago, I bought the ONLY NOS 340/S pistons I remember for sale on e-bay ( in the last 6 years or so anyway ). I paid $200 each to get them. Did that bite a bit? YES IT DID!
However, the Ultralight Aircraft crowd has been complaining about the high cost of Genuine Rotax pistons for years, like north of $200, and I believe rings, pins, and clips, are extra. Rotax would seem to be a fair comparison to our pistons as they are both piston port, fan cooled, engines.
I picked up a catalog parts supplier, and looked up Wiseco Rotax 503 pistons ( the smallest fan cooled Rotax listed ). $247 with rings, pins and clips, and from my perspective, this is/was a very popular engine.
From where I'm sitting, less than $150 each would be a deal. If the Dator, or any other tooling could be used ( thus reducing the cost ), I'm guessing even more would be purchased.
I agree with Chuck, this not likely to ever get cheaper. If there is a way to get this done, lets bite the bullet and get it done.
