'76 Liquifire Seat Questions

Post by yellowlab2 »

Does anyone have pictures that you could post of the seat removal/assembly process for a '76 Liquifire. I need to replace the seat cover on mine, and I've never had a seat off of a Deere before...so I'm not sure how it's attached, and I don't want to accidentally damage the cooling system in doing it! I was suprised that my Service Manual has no diagrams or pictures of the seat assembly at all!
Thanks!

Yellowlab,
It's very easy. Lift the rear snowflap up and look under the rear of the tunnel. Locate to the 2 small bolts, one on each side near the rear. Remove those bolts and gently lift the rear of the seat up off the tunnel clearing the tailight. Slide the seat to the rear, unhooking the front tabs and the seat will now lift off. This procedure is for the stock mounts if it was not altered. If you have a backrest, that must be removed first.

While Harley is dead on, most likely the T nuts in the seat board will turn so once you locate the two bolts you might have to cut them. You can't see the boards under the seat but it draws moisture over the years.

John's has a nice product. Used him for many different models. You can send him the seat to repair or buy the cover. Check out the ad banner at the top of the page...he advertises here. Very reasonable as well.

Taking the seat off was pretty easy...and the bolts were rusty, but the wood the rotten, so the seat popped right off! It was really painstaking to get the cover off of the foam with out wrecking it, though! Between the cover being sealed to the foam, and foam being glued to the two wooden pieces...what a PITA!
