What the Heck!
I have a 1980 440 LiquidFire. I started it after a few squirts of fuel in the carbs. Then after the temp got on the gauge the engine started running high in rpms. I was able to control it for a few times with the engine kill switch, and the ignition swithch. All of a sudden it went to 7000 rpm, the kill switch didnt stop it and the ignition switch wouldnt cut it off either. Well in desperation, I pulled the spark plug wires. Well to my surprize the engine still ran for at least 5 minutes before killing itself. Any of you liquid fire guroos know what the heck gives? I am fixing to tear it down. What advice or suggestions would anyone have as to what might be going on with it. Thanks!

First get the riffle and shoot it . its got a mind of its own!!!lol
just kidding i just had the same thing happen to me but it was on a ski-doo 9500 blizzard what happend to me was i was doing some grass drags in the back yard, i just got this thing dump gas into it and squirted gas in the carbs to prime it, well it ran perfect, while abusing this thing one of the carb boots fell apart , and the carb fell away from the cylinder about 1/8th of an inch or so and it leaned out and revved quit high and the heat of the summer and the abuse i was applying to it to much im sure, it didnt want to shut off witht the kill swith as well, so i primed the **** out of it,thank god for that primmer it finally flooded out and stopped, but before it was all done it backfired somthing fierce, . so check for air leaks and piston detonation.!!!!
GOOD LUCK !!!

Well I did have the thought of shooting it.......lol. But then I figured if I did that my wife would use the gun on me! I will check for the leaks. I still cant get over the fact that it ran while the spark plug wires were pulled.

If the plug wires were pulled, but left fallen on the cylinder heads, it is possible for high engery ignition systems to still light the plug....
the base problem still seems like you have a large vacuum leak.
let us know what you find.
