KEC-440/21 vs. 440/22 & 23LC Wiseco pistons

Post by HoosierDeereMan »

For awhile now I have been looking for a set of Wiseco pistons for my 78 440 Liquifire.

You see pistons on E-bay all the time and you have to be careful as it gets confusing and some sellers have falsely identified the piston they have for sale.

KEC440/21 uses a Wiseco #2262 Left and #2263 Right. They can come in two versions the standard ring design and "L" ring design piston. These are a 16mm wrist pin.

KEC440/22 & 23LC use a Wiseco #2015 Left and #2016 Right. They also come in two versions the standard ring design and "L" ring design piston. These are a 18mm wrist pin.

I think the biggest confusion is the casting number that Wiseco used inside on the wrist pin tower. I bought a piston that was cast 2015 that was actually a 2262. The only way I could tell was the small wrist pin hole would not fit my crank. The easiest way to quickly identify which is which is to look at the yellow envelope the wrist pin curlips are in. If they a labeled CS16 they are 440/21 pistons. CS18 are 440/22 or /23LC pistons. There also is no rhyme or reason to the color of the box (red or blue/turquois) as which ring land design they are. Standard or "L" ring design.

I hope this helps you guys avoid some of the issues I got into with buying the wrong piston because of misidentification. Be very leary of Wiseco piston boxes with original part numbers marked out and a different number hand written with any of these numbers on them.

hard for me to believe how little support wiseco offers there old products , you would think there would be a webpage of somekind that could be used to get specs of these old pistons , they act like they were never made , whatever wade

I wouldn't put a weisco piston in anything I own unless it was a last chance resort.... I've only ever known them to be heartache, but maybe in a fan situation they will last longer, in a l/c engine they cold sieze like mad.... Just my .02
