121 track swap

Post by smitfire »

I started a 121 track swap today, I was able to use the original suspension holes so far. I have lots of slop left in the track and im out of adjustment.
Maybe rail extensions?

The suspension is way shoved up in the rails but so are new sleds?

Wycrumb a member on this site put a Polaris suspension in his Sportfire. Not sure how to make a link try searching 121" track in a sportfire (that is the title of his post) or search his posts. Looks like you are on the right track. Keep us posted as to what ends up working. I know several of us are out there looking for the hook up (more traction).

Smit,

While I personally hate drilling extra holes in the tunnels of vintage sleds, I believe that is exactly what you need to do to make this swap work correctly. I would suggest measuring the doner Indy's mounting holes in relation to the drive axle.

I hope this helps,

Joe, I hate drilling holes too. What is your theory for moving the holes?

If you measue the hole placement on the donar sled...you can transfer the measurements to the Sportfire. This will give you the correct placement of the skid in the new tunnel..

Smit,

Pretty much as Eric said it. Take measurements from the drive axle hole to the suspension mounting holes from the doner Indy. Or, you can make a cardboard templet to get campture the same dimentions. I would use the top of the tunnel for reference, but check it out with the suspension next to the sled to make sure you have the correct attitude of the suspension since your putting the longer travel skid in a leafer.

I hope this helps,

That suspension must be shorter than the mid 90's stuff that I used? I suggest you find a suspension like I used and you should not have to drill different holes, I didn't.
