Parting out Spitty
Just picked this one up this evening. The front end, including the hood, bumper, and pan are pretty busted up, so I am going to part this one out on Saturday. It's shows just over a 1000 miles on the speedo, and the previous owner said it ran 2 seasons ago. I know, we have all heard that before and really doesn't mean much. I haven't looked it over closely, but it looks like a lot of nice parts on this one. The track which is the most important looks very good, which means it won't be cheap, but I still need to inspect it once it's off the sled. I will know the condition of all parts by the end of the day on Saturday. Pm me with your needs and I will get back with you as soon as I can with a price.
Thanks..Terre

Re: Parting out Spitty
There is a bit of a story that goes with this one Rob. I had my daughter networking at school last year, I told her to let her friends know that I'm always looking to buy John Deere snowmobiles. Well Wednesday night she gets a call from a class mate. He tells her that, he has a friend that is selling a Spitfire, and wanted to know if I was interested, and what I would be willing to pay. I told her to tell him the price would depend on the condition of the sled. This is where it gets messed up somehow. He tells her the engine size, and somehow my daughter translates that into the asking price, plus $10. So she tells me they want $350 for the sled. Knowing how most of these sleds were treated, I was figuring it would be worth closer to $100. So I told her I would pass on that one, mainly because I don't have any extra cash right now. Well, yesterday, maybe because of the call, I decided to check Craigslist to see if there was anything new. And there it was, a 1980 Spitfire, $100 and right here in my hometown, actually it was about a mile from my house. How can I pass that one up?jdrob wrote:Just missed this by a hair ! good snag Terre.
If I would have been a day earlier, she said she sold 4 atv's and dirt bikes, for $100 each! She wants her barn cleaned out and the husband won't sell anything, so she is.

Turns out the track isn't any good. It was good on one side but the other had a lot of rusted through cleats and is seriously dry rotted. I'm guessing at some point in time, it sat on the ground too long.

Re: Parting out Spitty
Still have some nice parts left on this one. The top end is in real nice condition, I can sell it whole or in pieces just let me know. Also still have the CDI/Coil, airbox, clutch, and carb. Let me know if there is any interest.

Re: Parting out Spitty
A rear grab bar from a Spitfire will not work, but one from a fire series sled will, if you can't find the correct one for your 78. Here is a pic of my 77 with a bar from a fire series sled. Fire series meaning Liquifire, Trailfire, and Sportfire. I'm not sure why I mounted it on back, normally they bolt on the front side of the tunnel, ummmm. Someone on here should have one of those. Post an add in the classifieds, and you should get a response.

Re: Parting out Spitty
I have some laying around, but these are still available new. I purchased one for my 79 Spitfire, last year, from my local Auto Value store. I told them what it was for and they were able to look it up in their book. Send me a pm if you still want one, include your address so I can estimate the shipping.liquitisplit80 wrote:Do you have the headlight? Need a good one for my 78.
