After being inside MANY Sprintfire motors, there has rarely been one that the motor actually has been in good condition. Most of the motors had bad crank seals and thus the cranks were bad. Also, many have had a bunch of sh*t in the cooling chambers around the cylinders and many water pumps have been bad as well. They are also not a simplistic motor to rebuild. If you pop the head off, you also loosen up the cylinders. I believe if you do normal maintenance on these motors they will last. If they sit neglected, most motors will be bad. I have been in at least 10 motors and probably more and only one has been truly a solid motor.

Wasn't a problem when Dennis Kirk was selling NOS cylinders & cranks for $24.99 but they are now sold out and the prices have jumped. And as we all know, there are no pistons/rings available for these. I have one NOS set of pistons/rings that I was thinking about having them repopped but I can't imagine the demand ever being high enough to have that done. So, I'll just sit on them for some time. Of note, my NOS rings in my NOS cylinders were out of spec as far as ring gap goes. Both NOS so I thought that was odd. Because of that, I haven't been afraid to run used rings in NOS cylinders that were slightly out of range as well. Every single motor I have rebuilt with used rings in NOS cylinders out of spec has run perfectly good for me and with good compression.
