Its a pretty low mileage machine, Just over 1200. I dont think it was abused to badly either. It took me almost 5 years to find it.

nice photos, proves that what I did worked with not taking down the top end. You should have it on its feet in no time.

I am new to these 80,s liquifires. They can be very challanging for sure but the members on this board can be very helpful and wont let you give up. The problem i had with getting these things running correctly was how the chokes were adjusted. Keep in mind that the cable lenght changes from having the console up to the closed position. completely changes on how these things run. Something simple but yet frustrating......Never wanted anything to do with the 80,s but now i have 5. I still like earlier versions of the liquifires as i think they are a much tougher, more reliable and better looking sled but thats my own opinion.

Good luck with your sled and enjoy the ride.

I500 You are right about the chokes and the dash.

I had the carbs off my 81 Liquifire the other day. Thought I was really on the ball. set the chokes on the bench.

Put the carbs back on. Started the sled with the dash up, ran great. closed dash engine stalls. I had to back the chokes way off to get it to run with the dash closed.

Well I made some progress today, business had been extremely slow this month so I took the oppertunity to work on the Deere. I have the engine back in place, installed the exhaust and electrical. I replaced the ignition coil with a new Kimpex (ugggg fingers crossed) and a mikuni fuel filter. The crank seal replacing went quite well. . thanks Danzig for the post, saved me alot of bs :beers; I was able to fix my steering linkage problem with the motor out, so I killed two birds with one stone

Anyhooo, It should be back togeher ready to rip one last time before it hits the barn for the summer. I have decided to go with the Mikuni TM36-2 carbs, nice and fresh for added throttle response

Should have this Liquifire running tomorrow if all goes well, Then onto the seat cover and hood paint/re decaling over the spring.

The carbs wont be here for another week, I doubt I will get much testing in this season. A friend of my races/wrenches/tunes sleds at pro level competitions, he gave some good advise regarding the new setup. With his help I am confident that the carb change will be a positive experiance. As for the power jets, he said they are not a big issue and not really needed, so thats good. The flat slide carb will decrease lag and improve throttle response. Before I place my order this afternoon I have to make sure the 15mm shorter carb wont be a problem with my airbox, otherwise I have to stick with the round slide VM36

Here's a quick update folks. I got the LF up and running today. Still having issues though. It runs much better so the crank seal obviously helped but I can't seem to get a consistent idle. Also I have lost my 12v Power supply from my stator. Looks like I have some more work to do. Fed up for now so that's its for today. I have customer work I should be doing anyways :bonk:

Idle on an 80 should be around 3000 rpm's to get around the timing curve

What seems to be going on is that I get the idle where its happy, then ride it for a bit and its too low. So I turn it up a bit and its fine, then I ride it and when I stop its too high again. Its also hard to start. I didnt have this problem before the crank seals were replaced so I must have monkeyeed up something. Im hoping the the o-ring seals on the crank spacers arent my culprit. I couldnt change those. Im real concerned about the loss of 12 volt power, Is it measured in DC or AC off the stator? I can get some voltage off the 2 yellow wires but not much

Im glad to finish off the season with most of the running issues solve, I wont be putting it to storage this summer, going to keep it close so I can work out some cosmetics over the summer. Onto paint and graphics :canada: (it looks mint, but the hood and tunnel graphics are not as clean as Id like) will be painting the hood, recovering the seat, and installing a new decal kit.. cant wait

They are Chrome skis. I actually don't like them all that much. I can't paint them because they are chrome, so I'm stuck either taking them to the platers leaving rusty. (they aren't that bad but some rust)
