@JDT, yes it's a beautiful piece you have there Brian. That said I thought the dust cans were supposed to be removed as they held in too much heat.

Yes Don, that is the conventional wisdom, ditch the can. However, and I have went round and round with Raindeere about this, on the 100C and 101C, the cover bushing is sandwiched between the can and the cover plate. Also, the cover plates on the 100C - 101C - 102C clutches that had the cans, are aluminum. It appears that the clutches that did not have the can used a steel cover plate, that's what I'm seeing on my '78 LF clutch.

If you remove the can, the spring will be sitting on the plastic cover bushing, instead of the steel can. Might work in the short term, not real confident in the long term. Two options: put the can in a lathe and cut the sides off, or install a new design ( steel ) cover plate ( $50 ).

In the use most of these sleds are seeing now, I doubt it is of any concern. My X8 hasn't been getting real good belt life running the Vintage Challenge the last few years, so I plan to put on an open 102C.

Besides, it looks so nice with the freshly painted can!

AM53408 bushing. It is a sub number, the original is not given.
Thats what i was thinking the sub number meant, but it was somewhat unclear. Thanks.

BTW, that is a kit. It includes the cover bushing. The Comet kit number appears to be 203826.

There was recently one on ebay, it ended yesterday. The listing doesn't day sold.

ok, thanks Brian. Near as i can figure, i am in need of 6 of these kits.... I think i can match the bronze bushing up with something out of McMaster, and the mylar cover bushings seem to be plentiful.
