Re: WTB heat exchanger 78 Liquifire
The top hole of the exchanger comes directly under the jack shaft. I mean right in the middle. It appears like you angled to avoid that problem. But now on the Dator which is the same as your Cyclone or liquifire the bottom vent of the exchanger would go right through the sterring mounting plate and destroy that unless you relocated and took apart the exchanger. even then there would not be enough clearance. Not worth it and it would be an all summer job and you would need a good alum fabricator. Appears yours has been changed a bit. Think it would of been easier to just use one that's fits to begin with. Just my opinion.

Why would you need one on a 77 Liquifire?

Chuck,
The top inlet was moved about an inch down, which gave it a different angle, cost $20 to modify. I wish I had a pic to explain it better. No modifications to the bottom one and it comes out between the steering bracket and frame rail. At least that is the way it worked on the one I had. Sorry, no pics, or a machine I can look at.
The reason for the bulkhead exchanger is because I removed the tunnel mounted ones.

Re: WTB heat exchanger 78 Liquifire
Thanks Terre for clearing that up. After you posted the pic I went out to the garage to look at again and determined that something got modified for sure. $20 is not bad price for modifying that exchanger. Simple project made difficult by not using one that fits to begin with . I will use the 78 and feel good about that. still ticked at myself for not seeing this before I drilled holes in the Dator tunnel. So the problem is with me and not anybody else. sorry

I'm sure I got an 80 lf tunnel around here somewhere. I'll take that Swiss cheese dator tunnel off your hands. No charge. Just let me know when I should pick it up.

Re: WTB heat exchanger 78 Liquifire
No problem Chuck, I've never seen a Dator up close so maybe something is different, or it has been modified. I made the same mistake on the top fitting, drilled the hole on top, mounted the heat exchanger, and installed the jackshaft, and you are right, the inlet lines up directly under the jack shaft. That's when I ended up having the inlet moved to get around the jack shaft. I would go with the 78 one also, but you may want to have the fins machined down on it so it doesn't get packed with dirt and you lose your cooling capacity. I would hate to see you burn one down.I500 wrote:Thanks Terre for clearing that up.
