WOW,AWSOME!! And I thought putting a 600 tripple cat into a 580 twin Pantera was a joy.(cutting and welding motor mounts was nesesary) Have thought that a 440cc Polaris liquid would be a pretty straight foward drop in the 76-78 Liquifires. Same carb size, similar pipe and water pump locations.

I always rebuild my steering columns by cutting them apart and add a bronze bushing in the worn out die cast aluminum.
I then replaced the temp tube I bent, with a strong piece of DOM Tube I had formed by Foxfire Fabrication in Horicon.
I made the splined piece so I could take apart the entire column if I need to work on it later.

83 ....... This sled came up a number of times over the years. The original owner bought it in 83 as a left over.
He smashed the hood 200 miles into the life of the sled. The dealer only had a 84 hood to replace it. He said put it on
and change the tunnel decals to match. I really thought I had a weird one when I bought it and this is the story. I have a picture of
it with the owner and the sled decaled as a 83 and another picture later on as a 84. Sorry if any of you guys are upset about me modifying an 83 but it is what I wanted to do.

No you can't do that with a 83 Joe. You need my permission first and must start over. :lol22: I sure wish I had your skills to do something like this. Did you ever find that clip you were looking for?

The clip he is talking about is a plastic clip that holds the plug wires in the coil. I had to put on longer plug wires and broke it.
Two dealers told me I have to buy a coil to get the clip  . I found that hard to believe and looked it up myself and did find it.
$3.50 each .......... :D

The Z’s tunnel was .5” narrower than the Deere. This created a lot more work as I had to bore the chain case bottom bearing
hole deeper to make it work out. I then made a spacer to make up the difference where the circlip contacts to hold in the bearing.
The drive wheels in turn need to be re centered accordingly. (also smaller diameter drive wheels were purchased to help the track clear at
the front of the tunnel.)

The exhaust by far was the most work on this project and I almost gave it all up trying to fit a silencer in there.
These first pictures show the unaltered pipe in the sled. The shape of the pipe did not allow the hood to go on.
The largest section rose too high and crashed into the hood scoop. Last picture shows the Swiss cheese hood I made
so I could check out all interference problems and there were plenty!

These pictures shows how I wanted the center section to lay by turning it upside down.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo ……. I cut the pipe up and turned the large center section over and the hood fit fine.

You cut and modified the pipe. That's insane! You my man have a lot of patience to tackle a project like this with all the custom fab work from scratch!!! Awesome JOB so far!

You are correct sir .... I would not have cut up an 84. This sled is going to wake up a lot happier than it was when it went to sleep!
I hope

The pipe ......
I didn't know what else I could do. I'm sure it will not be tuned as well as it was but it should run???????????????????????
I tried my best to keep the volume the same. I changed the pipe and can numerous times to make it finally fit well.
The silencer can was hell.

As long as the basics are retained in the pipe, it should work. All you've done is essentially reverse the location of the bend based on functionality of the internals. I'm sure they did the same thing at Skidoo during development of that sled.
