To date, I have only installed these picks in cleated tracks. We would drill a hole out in the cleat to 7mm and install, so no backer was needed. On a rubber track install, I would go with whatever backer Woody's recommends for that pick. They come with nylock nuts, but I always used locktite as well.

DA I would definitely buy that tool, I have to double check but I think my only sled set up for studs right now with tunnel guards is my 84 LF, and that is not at the front of the line at all yet for trail readiness lol. But it would be nice to do a LF track so I can swap it around if I choose, I'm just sick of being the only guy to show up at the local RADAR runs with Deeres! Those Dang Yamaha and Yellow guys are always trying to sweep the trophies.....oh and the merc guys lol. Where's Ron Sonnek at an event when ya need him!

You can buy the track tools or you can buy a hollow gasket punch set for ten bucks and get like 6 sizes but I would buy the stud template that has predrilled holes for diff. Stud patterns then just use a paint marker to mark your pattern for whole track that way you can mark and make sure you don't mess it up with odd pattern. I have always taken tracks out and put around a small portable bench the track fits between legs so I can turn it as I go and drill standing up make sure the edge of your punch/tool is sharp goes way better!

Using my own template, a Woody's hole drill and working by myself I was able to put in 46 Gold Digger .750 in about an hour and a half. That hole drill is the greatest thing since sliced bread. A huge shoutout to son Bob for my Christmas presents, they really helped the most. Ryobi.
