Some more progress... both tpr's had holes tore in them. I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I had them welded and then I filled the area with 3M bumper repair. Sanded and had them painted along with the hood. I also was able to straighten the bumper and reuse it.

This 83 LX is done!
Just waiting for the new Kimpex windshield to arrive. This has been a fun project. My brother and I rode trailfires back in high school and it's still a thrill to hear them run today.
Two years ago we each bought LX's to restore and since have added a few more New Breed Deere's. Looking forward to getting them out next fall!
Thanks for the help JDsleds.com members!
Excellent Job! Explain how you cleaned up the chaincase so well? Also go into more detail on the trp welding and 3M bumper repair?
Very impressive back to back 82 & 83 Trailfire restorations!
The TPR repair...
I took the TPR's to a local auto body shop and they plastic welded the holes. This left a depression in that area from the heat. I filled the area along with some deep scratches elsewhere on the panels with 3M 5896 Plastic Repair.
Let it harden and hand sand it with 180 grit paper. From that point the primer was applied and sanded, then final paint. I wish I had taken better before and during pictures.
