Sound like a fun derby to bring the sleds out to. I think I might make the trip from Regina. Not really all that far. Richard

It'd be great to see you here, Richard. We had folks from Regina, Speedy Creek and Govin, SK last year and I'm sure they will all be back. I know there's some guys coming from Southy and Earl Grey this winter. You couldn't wipe the smiles of the faces last year. We try our damndest to create an atmosphere where you feel like you have travelled back in time for one day.

Hey Pete if you have time this winter you should come out to vintage drag races this year. Not sure which weekend yet. Saturday is in Govan and Sunday is Earl Grey. Last year we had the only deere sleds there. That is just not right!! Our spitfire did pretty well and my 300 had wiring issues. Must be 79 or older. It's a blast. Over 100 sleds at each race and not all were at both either. Richard.

I was at the Govan race last winter, Richard and I guess it was you that I talked to briefly. You were on the Spit when I chatted with you. I was the guy who told you I thought your Spit was a 78 because of the flat black dash area. Sorry, I missed seeing your heat, but I was a bit tied up selling my RTX during the race. I'm sure I'll be at either Earl Grey or Govan this year....those guys stage a heckuva an event... very well organized with almost non stop action.

 actually i got both the speedo and tachs at princess auto on panet road (head office) since i live about a block away. I know where roblin is approx but until i get my truck on the road the way i want it sleds will pretty much stay in lockport selkirk area.

I think they FINNALLY worked out all the bugs in the bombadier trail groomer here so at least the trails get groomed more than once or twice a winter. Now if they only made that stupid snow pass cheap it would be more fun.

Of course in the beasujour area we get a few races all winter.. also poker derbys vintage and non vintage. drags etc. even oval vintage by cc which is cute as there is this one idiot on a trailfire who hasnt figured out why his steering goes wonky on corners.. and since his dad and I dont see eye to eye im not gonna tell him.

Ive driven my x6 to a few shows but never entered it..i get enough ohs and ahs just putting in gas.

yes chickenrat that is an mx, good eye! It is my 1982 mx blizz, also have a 1981 which is kind of a parts machine now. Stole a cyl off it for the 82. Like the elec ignition better on the 82. I am thinking of putting a 9700 blizzard 90hp thumper into one of them and have an mx missle. Just like the Deckers used to do back in the day.

yeah Pete I remember you now. My dad and I talked to you and another gentleman. The spit ran pretty good for us. My little brother was the pilot as his skinny a$$ is about 80lbs lighter than mine  He went to the "B" final in stock G and got second to a Yamaha. We also bumped up a class into into stock F and went to the "A" final. Got DQ'd for a little nudge at the start line. We smoked every sled in the first 100ft but just didn't have the top end to stay ahead of them. All the races we lost were in the last 10-20ft of track. This year we will have a bigger fleet at the races. Our 78 spitfire, 71 Tnt 640, 72 Superjet 440, and hopefully our 77 Rv free air and our 77 Rv cross country liquid!!

You really did do well with your Spit. I wish I hadn't missed watching it. The guy that was with me was some fellow from northern Alberta who met me in Govin to buy my RTX 300. I wish I had some suggestions to give your Spitfire a wee bit more top end, but it sounds like you had it top notch form to do as well as you did. My suggestion.....sneak out to that track the night before and move those finish flags back 21 feet.

like the points of the 82 or do you mean the cdi of the 81? still seems to short for the mx in pic i have one in back of shop awaiting for the owner to bring me his exhaust gaskets.. its an 82 blizzard mx with a set of jd300 skis on it now custom fit of course.. the motor is the original points motor with dual carbs that say 34 but are actually 32 i rebuilt the engine about 4 yrs ago.. oh and if someone wants to argue dont bother the local expert larry says the 81 is cdi 82 points it was some mixup at bombadier when they made the 82. they are also a hard pack trail sled only front is WAY to heavy for soft snow.

Rodimus, it could be the angle of the pic that makes it look too short. It definitely has a cdi on the 82 and my 81 has breaker points ignition. I love the ride of it though. On trails I would rather drive it then my 98 formula III. It takes the big bumps very well.

Pete, my dad has bought some clutch parts from Rainville, and we are going to try some sprintfire drivers to see if that helps with our top end. That little spit will keep the skis off the ground for probably 150ft. It is pretty impressive out of the hole. We only got it running the night before the drags so we have had zero test time on it. This year will be better I hope.

So the '82 is CDI & '81 is points? How many HP on the '82? Is it oil injection? Always thought they were neat looking sleds but heavy & slow is what I have heard.

chickenrat, youare correct withe the cdi/points issue. It did have oil injection that year but mine has been tossed out. The first generation skidoo oil injection was prone to failure, so I took it off. They were 52hp stock and are a complete snow plow! Way too heavy in the front end, but rides like a Cadillac!
