Deere vs. Deer?

Yikes, I bet that smaller sled you were able to take the lead with was a 92 440 Cougar wasn't it. Like the special "GAY EDITION" Paul rides

Deere vs. Deer?

Post by JDGuy »

Fear the deer!!! 5 of us guys were riding in the UP on an old railroad grade that was a state sled trail. The trail was freshly groomed, extra smooth, and we were probably cruising around 70 mph or so, or a bit more, just at dusk/dark. At this particular location there was not much of a grade on either side of the very straight trail, but thick brush on both sides. All of a sudden a deer goes over the top of the lead sled and takes our buddy off his sled. Guess we all seen it at the same time, and everyone got hard on the binders, stopped, with all missing each other. I was riding in second place and got stopped beside our buddy, lying deathly still on the trails edge. At first glance, he looked dead. His helmet face shield was off, and by flash light, he had a very scary pale color to his face. Buddy wasn?t moving, he wasn?t talking, nothing, no response. We quickly started to check him out and he started to come to, probably in less than 2 minutes, maybe less than a minute, time is hard to remember/judge during the emotion of an accident............ but it seemed like an hour at the time. The deer?s rear legs/hoofs hit his helmet, knocked him out cold, and cracked the shell of his helmet. There was not a scratch or one deer hair on his Wildcat, the deer apparently took him off the sled so fast and hard that the handle bars were not turned and his sled coasted to a stop straight down the trail. And no, none of us were on John Deere?s, this was several years after Deere set us a drift in 84 with a bad feeling. We had a few shots at the next bar stop to calm the nerves and remiss about our good fortune!!
