Do you have a phone in radio show like a swap and shop where you live. We have one here and that is how I find alot of my sleds. Alot of farmers listen to it and alot of them have JD sleds sitting in the back of sheds. I have a list of over 30 of them within 150 miles of me that I can have or buy CHEAP. I have not pursued all of them becaue there is just to many.

Even if you don't have one if you know any farmers or anyone just talk sleds and you can usually flush one out. Let that guy sweat it out awhile he may come down in price. If he really wants it gone he will come down in price.

The seller must think highly of his L-fire if he has that Rotty gaurding it.

If you pay $300 for a 1980 or 1981, you should get at the very least a complete semi-running sled. It may need an extensive service, but for $300 it should have all of the parts and not need a complete restoration. As the years progressed, the production numbers got smaller therefore the prices will increase. If you find a 1984 Liquifire for $300, take the sled and run. I paid $250 for my 1982. (I do feel a little guilty) It's complete, and all it really needed was a MAG side crank seal and a new steering post. The guy wanted $300 for it. I was going to buy it no matter what, but I decided to look it over before handing him the cash. I kept mumbling a mental parts list to myself and the guy said, "How's $250 sound?". I handed him the cash and was on my way. His daughter didn't ride it anymore, and he just wanted it gone. I thank Robb (Chicken Rat) for that find. He posted the craigslist ad on the site, and it turns out that it was on my way home from work. Deals like that pop up quite a bit on Craigslist. There are a lot of people who see these things as old machines that have depreciated to ridiculously low values and just want to get a few bucks out of them after they upgrade to a newer sled. Keep your eyes peeled, you'll find a deal sooner or later.

I have an 81 sportfire that I am thinking of selling. Is this a rare sled or are there lots of them. Does the same thing go for an 81 liquifire?

Not sure but I've seen a few Sportfires for sale lately. There was one recently close by for $600 in decent shape. Actually its a 1984, I wonder if thats as rare as the 1984 liquifire?

Yes, very few of each model were built in '84. For $600 it should be mostly complete, and in decent shape.Sledsrock wrote:Not sure but I've seen a few Sportfires for sale lately. Ya that's the same one I was looking into. Looks like a fairly decent sled for the money, and the price is neg. I know for a fact they will take $500. She's all yours for taking, its no Liquifire so I'm going to keep looking.
